IndianOil’s Bongaigaon Refinery recently won the National Award for Prevention of Pollution from the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The award was conferred on the Refinery in recognition of its outstanding contribution to Environmental Conservation and creating Environmental awareness in the Bodo Territorial Autonomous District region of Assam, which is predominantly a tribal dominated area.

The award was presented by Minister of Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh to Director (Refineries) BN Bankapur on the occasion of the International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer in New Delhi.

Bongaigoan Refinery is country’s first Oil Refinery to get this coveted Award. Last year the Refinery was also decorated with the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puruskar by the Ministry of Environment.

While congratulating Bongaigaon Refinery on its commendable performance, Bankapur said that the basic philosophy underlying IndianOil’s Refining operations is “Care for Environment through Resource Conservation”.

All the IndianOil Refineries have undertaken a number of initiatives and environment management programs especially for water management by adopting clean and eco-friendly technologies and meet most of their water requirement through treated effluent, added Bankapur.
