AAI felicitates Parimarjan Negi
Airports Authority of India Sports Control Board recently felicitated Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi on his being conferred the prestigious Arjuna Award.
Negi, the ward of an AAI employee, is the youngest Indian to become an International Master/Grandmaster. He has been encouraged by AAI from a very young age and has also been under the AAI Sports Talent Search & Training Scheme. Harika Dronavalli and SP Sethuraman are other chess players encouraged by AAI.
Young badminton players Sai Praneeth (world Junior Boys bronze medallist and current junior national champion) and PV Sindhu (world Junior Girls 5th position and current sub-junior girls national champion) who are under the AAI Sports Contract Scheme were also felicitated on the occasion.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, who was the Chief Guest at the felicitation function, appreciated the efforts put in by the AAI under the patronage of VP Agrawal, chairman AAI, in encouraging young and promising sportspersons of the country, through its various sports schemes.
He was hopeful that those being felicitated as also other sportspersons encouraged by AAI would in times to come do the country proud. Patel appreciated the efforts of AAI in sponsoring national championships in various games.
