Eurocopter, the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer, organised the first EC225 demo flight in Juhu airport in Mumbai. Eurocopter used this opportunity to introduce in India the latest and the most state-of-the art helicopter currently being used by leading global Oil & Gas sector players, around the world. The EC225 is recognised in the world to be the civil highest performer helicopter, flying faster, further and safer than any other helicopter. Since its introduction on the market in 2004, the EC225 has become the reference helicopter for long range or deep water offshore operation, the most demanding and exigent helicopter mission.

It is the biggest helicopter of Eurocopter range (11 tonns class, 19 to 24 passengers’ seats) that belongs to the famous Super Puma / Cougar family. Over 800 units of this family, with total flight time in excess of 4,000,000 flight hours have been delivered to date.

“The oil and gas industry has been growing steadily and is expected to be a huge economic growth driver in India in the years to come. Helicopters represent a crucial element in the industry expansion process with already 15% of India’s helicopter fleet deployed in the oil and gas sector. Eurocopter being the global leader in the O&G segment will continue to play a crucial role by providing also logistical support to this growing sector,” said Marie-Agnes Veve, CEO, Eurocopter India.

Helicopters play a very crucial role in the O&G sector, from initial stages of seismic, scanning and exploration, to transport and emergency assistance. During drilling operation as well as production, helicopters transport workers to the platform for missions such as crew change, transport equipments and also delivery supplies even in the toughest of the weather conditions. More over for any emergency assistance, helicopters are the only mode of transportation to rely on for a quicker and an efficient response. As oil rigs are discovered further out into the sea, helicopters like EC225 with longer range capability have become the need of the hour for the sector.

“Beyond 110 nautical miles, the medium helicopters loose drastically their productivity, it is a fact. It becomes definitely more cost efficient to think about heavy helicopters,” said Mickael Melaye, Senior Operational Marketing Manager, O&G Application.

The EC225 is designed to meet the highest safety standard levels, which is backed by its system redundancy, a highly capable automatic flight control system (AFCS), in all weather conditions. Eurocopter helicopters are especially designed to satisfy the business needs, providing the latest avionics technology at high levels of safety and service, for unmatched profitability and to enhance the fleet safety. Eurocopter India, the fully owned subsidiary of Eurocopter in India, is dedicated to provide a close support to all its customers in order to bring this first demo to the next stage and make the EC225 fly in Indian sky.
