Company’s Over Burden (OB) removal robust in FY 15-16, at 339.64 million cubic meters, with 61 per cent growth

Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) has posted record coal production of 80.22 million tonnes (MT) in the financial year 2015-16, against the assigned target of 78.10 million tonnes. The company has not only crossed the assigned target for FY 15-16, but registered the double digit growth of 10.7 per cent in comparison to the last year’s coal output.

The Company has also crossed its coal offtake target of 78.10 million tonnes and has achieved 78.51 million tonnes in the just concluded financial year. Similarly, the company’s over burden (OB) removal target for FY 15-16 was set at 260 Million cubic meters against which the company has achieved a 61.26 per cent growth rate, with an output of 339.64 million cubic meters.

NCL CMD Shri Tapas Kumar Nag and company’s functional directors have congratulated the team at NCL for achieving all key targets and setting a new pinnacle of success.

CMD Shri Nag has said that keeping in view the stupendous performance of the company, NCL’s coal production and offtake targets for the new financial year 2016-17 have been set at 82 million tonnes each, which he hoped to achieve within time, with the help of dedicated manpower and team work.

The company’s performance in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has also been outstanding in the just concluded financial year. The company has spent approx. 175 crores of rupees on CSR activities during the period, which includes a major work of construction and renovation of more than six thousand toilets in the government schools in 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh, under Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

The company, well known for its environmental conservation work, planted about four lakh saplings during the last fiscal and thus the number of trees planted by the company till date becomes more than 2.30 crores, which is highest amongst all subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. NCL also became the first subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL) starting coal transportation through Belt Pipe Conveyor System in the fiscal 15-16. This is a major step of the company to achieve environmental excellence as 700 trucks transporting coal have gone off-road by this state of the art technology, which is completely pollution free.

The company purchased machines and spare parts of approx. 475 crores in FY 15-16, which also includes purchase of the four surface miners, a state of the art coal mining machine, which the company purchased first time specially to get the desired size of coal to ensure quality coal to its consumers.

The company is also preparing itself to produce 110 million tonnes of coal by FY 19-20, in alignment with coal India’s target to achieve one billion tonne output. In view of this target, the company is also preparing for project expansions, like expansion of its Jayant and Dudhichua Projects coal production capacity, from 10 million tonnes each to 20 million tonnes per annum each, expansion of its Block B project from 3.5 million tonnes to 8 million tonnes per annum, to amalgamate its Bina and Kakri projects to reach at 10 million tonnes per annum and also to start a new 2 million tonnes per annumn open cast project named Semaria shortly.

NCL is a Miniratna Company of Govt. of India and subsidiary of Maharatna Company Coal India Limited. The company produces approximately 12 per cent of the national coal production from its 10 highly mechanized opencast mines. NCL supplies more than 90 per cent of its produced coal to the nearby pithead thermal power plants of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Utter Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), Anpara unit of LANCO and other power plants. The coal requirements for 12 Per cent of the installed power generation capacity of the thermal power plants of the nation is fulfilled by NCL. The balance mineable coal reserve of Singrauli Coalfield, where the company is operating, is approximately 9.65 Billion Tonnes, which is power grade coal, mostly amenable to open cast Mining.
