Strong demand lifts BHEL Q4 net 42%

Navratna public sector undertaking Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has reported a 42 per cent jump in its audited net profit for fiscal fourth quarter, at Rs 1,909.58 crore against Rs 1,347.47 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
In a press release, the state-run power equipment maker reported total income of Rs 14,152.63 crore during the January-March quarter of financial year 2010 against Rs 11,047.24 crore in the same period of the previous financial year.
Net revenue from operations during the quarter rose 29 per cent to Rs 13,559.10 crore from Rs 10,540.07 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Other operating income amounted to Rs 385.55 crore, compared with Rs 309.98 crore in the same period last year.
Revenue from ‘power’ segment, BHEL’s main business, was up 34 per cent at Rs 11,154.90 crore against Rs 8,607.85 crore in the similar quarter in the previous year. Revenue from ‘Industry’ segment was up 16 per cent at Rs 3,149.06 crore against Rs 2,716.14 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Total revenue from operations rose 27 per cent to Rs 14,096.33 crore from Rs 11,134.48 crore in the similar quarter of the previous year.
For the 2009-10 financial year ended 31 March, BHEL reported a 37 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 4,310.64 crore, compared with Rs 3,138.21 crore in the previous financial year.
