South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has set a new record in coal production in 2008-09. The company ended up producing 100.19 metric tonne against the target of 96.00 metric tonne, registering an 8 per cent growth in coal production over the last year.

While achieving this unique feat, SECL has produced 17.42 metric tonne of coal from under ground mines (highest), which is 5.1 per cent growth in UG production, with offtake of 102.1 metric tonne and also in Over Burden Removal (OBR) and with OBR of 106.4 million cubic meter, which shows 6.1 per cent growth in OBR.

MP Dikshit, chairman and managing director congratulated the efforts of the entire SECL family, consisting of 82,000 employees. Its now become the first coal producing company to achieve this coveted three figure mark of producing 100 metric tonne of coal.
