CIL has paid a dividend of Rs 1705.42 crores to the Government of India for the year 2008-09. A cheque was handed over to C Balakrishnan, Secretary Coal by Partha Bhattacharyya, chairman, CIL.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between cil chairman and Coal Secretary, for the year 2009- 2010. The parameters for production of 430 million tonnes of coal would get a ‘very good’ rating while a production of 440 million tonnes will earn Coal India ‘excellent’ rating.

Besides, targets for various physical and financial parameters, the MoU also incorporates parameters for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) such as introduction of mobile medical vans, CSR dispensaries, participation in establishing ITI’s and launch of AIDS awareness programmes.
