SECL output touches a new high
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited and also is a highest coal producing company in the country has reached a historical landmark of production of 101.15 million tonnes of coal in the year 2008-09. On achievement of this historical landmark SECL has stormed into one of the nine elite coal producing companies in the World. SECL presently operates in 92 coal mines situated in the States of Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh.
NEW PROJECTS
As per the directions from the Ministry of Coal more and more new Projects are required to be taken up to meet the increased demand of coal and also to bridge the gap between the Demand and Supply of Coal in the country.
According to MP Dikshit, chairman and managing director, SECL, the policy of the Government of India is to increase the Under Ground Coal production, so that there is less harm to the environment.
Keeping in view the above, SECL has undertaken the following projects during the current year :-

Target
With a view to meet the increased demand of Coal, the Government of India, Ministry of Coal has given the additional target to SECL, under which during the current financial year 2009-10 SECL was given a target of producing 108 million tonnes of Coal, however, SECL is confident to achieve the targeted coal production and to produce 106 million tonnes of Coal, to meet the demand of Coal and energy security of the country.

- Vijay (West) UG Mine — Chirimiri Area(To produce 0.50 M. Te., annually
- Khairaha UG Mine — Sohagpur Area ( Yearly Prodn 0.585 M.Te)
- Ketaki UG Mine- Bisrampur Area (Yearly Prodn 0.42 M. Te)
- Haldibadi UG Mine — Hasdeo Area (Yearly Prodn 0.42 M.Te)
- Amadand Open Cast Mines- Jamuna & Kotma Area
- Amera OC Project — Bisrampur Area
- Mahan-II OC, Bhatgaon Area
During 2009-10 the work for the following Projects is in progress :
- Saraipali OC - Korba Area
- Amgaon OC - Johilla Area
- Nowrozabad OC- Johilla Area
- Binkara UG - Bisrampur Area
- Jampali OC - Raigarh Area
- Anjan Hill - Chirimiri Area
- Coming up TWO New UG Mega Projects with a production capacity of 2 Million Tonnes each.
