THDC India Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Deptt of Energy, Royal Govt of Bhutan for updation of ‘Detailed Project Report’ (DPR) of 180 MW Bunakha Hydro Electric Project in Bhutan.

The MOU was signed by RST Sai, CMD, THDC India and Yeshi Wangdi, Director General, Bhutan in the presence of Satish C Mehta, Jt. Secy. (North) Ministry of External Affairs, DV Singh, Director Technical, THDC and Kalayani Mishra, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Power.

Bunakha Project is a part of the India’s initiative of developing 10,000 MW of hydro power in Bhutan by year 2020.
THDC has also been assigned the responsibility of updation of DPR of Sankosh Multipurpose Project (4060 MW) in Bhutan. THDC has already established a full fledged office in Phuentsholing, Bhutan and two offices each in Bunakha and Sankosh project sites.


THDC is well established ‘Mini Ratna’ Company in hydro sector and has achievement of successfully commissioning and maintaining Tehri Dam Project to its credit. The company is poised to add 400 MW to its hydro capacity by commissioning Koteshwar Project.
THDC now has a vision to contribute greatly towards the Indo-Bhutan Co-operation in hydro development.
