An MoU between Employees’ State Insurance Corporation and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has been signed by the chief engineer, ESIC and secretary, BEE. The memorandum aims at advancing and implementing energy efficiency measures in various hospitals, commercial buildings, residential colonies being owned and operated or authorised by ESIC all over India.

Installation of energy saving devices is a win-win situation for both ESIC and the installer as investment can be recovered within a short period. The benefits shall be shared by the installers and the ESIC and will be good for the country as a whole. To start with, the devices are to be installed in ESI Hospital, Jhilmil and Rohini to be followed by other ESIC buildings.
The ESI Corporation runs an unique social security scheme which has the feature of an insurance organisation as well as service provider for health related needs of the insured persons under the scheme.
The Corporation has the largest team of medical and para-medical personnel in India and also has one of the largest medical infrastructure in the world. It has huge infrastructure of 144 Hospitals, 42 hospitals annexes, 1397 ESI dispensaries, 1753 panel clinics, 300 diagnostics centres, 795 branch/pay offices and 51 regional/sub-regional/divisional offices.
The ESI Corporation has also approved formation of hospital development committee for each hospital, which will look after upgradation of hospital facilities and its attached dispensaries. They have been delegated with financial power.
