Union Minister of State Jyotiraditya Scindia says that the power sector will soon see sustainable growth
Our Government is committed towards sustainable development and rapid expansion of the physical infrastructure in general and the power sector in particular said Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power (Independent charge) while inaugurating the International Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Conference recently in New Delhi on the theme “Sustainable Growth-Strategies for Fuel and Efficiency”. NTPC organises this prestigious event every year on this day to commemorate the synchronisation of its first unit in 1982.
He added that we have to be proactive to provide electricity at a competitive price. So going beyond excellence will be the norm rather than exception in coming days. Scindia said that it is a matter of pride for us to remember that on this very day, February 13, 1982, NTPC Ltd., commenced electricity production from its first unit of 200 MW at Singrauli. Speaking on the occasion Arup Roy Choudhury CMD, NTPC informed that the vintage unit is presently operating at 93% PLF with an availability of 100%, he further added that operational practices of NTPC are benchmark in the sector as the organisation believes in encouraging innovative practices.
NTPC projects Korba, Talcher Thermal and NTPC Faridabad were awarded for excellence in operational practices based Business Excellence model by Scindia. Ashok Lavasa, Addl. Secretary (Power), A.S. Bakshi , chairperson CEA and N.N.Misra, director (Operations) also addressed the gathering.
The aim of the conference is to reinforce the power major’s commitment to make a difference on an organisational level and endeavour to capture contemporary challenges and future scenarios. In this year’s conference, out of 60-70 papers, around twelve international papers are expected with representation from USA, Australia, Korea, Japan and many more. Apart from foreign companies, there will be around thirty papers from Indian participants such as IIT Delhi, Tata Power, Jindal Power, Reliance Power, Lanco, GE, Siemens, NLC Neyveli, BHEL, CEA, CPRI, CPCB etc. NTPC will be presenting about thirty papers.
The discussions at the conference enabling feedback into plant designs to lower O&M costs as well as reaching optimally acceptable emissions levels -- would have a leveraging effect, especially in India. It is expected that best O&M aspects-as they evolve, will be discussed threadbare and the resulting action plan will be implemented in the entire power sector. The design of proceedings shall also target to have interaction on relevant experience with global fraternity and enrich knowledge base of every participant -- thus benefitting the whole power sector. NTPC presently operates a capacity of 39674 MW and plans to become 128GW Company by the year 2032 with well diversified fuel mix.
