The Ignition Furnace of Sinter Plant Number 3 was lighted up by A P Choudhary, CMD, RINL-VSP at a glittering function held in the plant premises recently. This is a major milestone in the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Sinter Plant-3 being constructed at a cost of Rs 750 crores and having a capacity of 3.6 mtpa as part of expansion of 6.3 mtpa. Prior to this a detailed pre-start up procedure, risk analysis and risk mitigation plan has been prepared by the Company to ensure full safety of the commissioning activities. This plan was vetted by M/s. MECON also as a third party assessor. Speaking on the occasion, A P Choudhary said that lot of precautions and safety initiatives were taken in the construction of Sinter Plant-3 and congratulated the projects collectively. He said the new Sinter Plant would help to increase production of Blast Furnace-3 apart from energy efficiency and reduction in cost of production.

Umesh Chandra, director (Operations) explained that with the availability of Sinter from the new sinter machine, the Hot Metal production from Blast Furnace number three can be ramped up significantly and cost economics will also improve further.

P Madhusudan, director (Finance), T K Chand, director (Commercial), Y R Reddy, director (Personnel), NS Rao, director (Projects), Digvijay Singh, senior commandant, CISF graced the occasion. R Ranjan, executive director (Works), PC Mohapatra, ED (Projects and Commissioning), SS Kumar, GM (Projects and Safety), senior officers, and representatives of SEA Satyanarayana, Tagore, union leaders Mantri Rajsekhar, Deenamanasu, representatives of other unions and associations and large number of employees participated.

Sinter Plant-3, was supplied and erected by the consortium of M/s TPE (Russia) and M/s McNally Bharat Engineering Limited and M/s Dastur and Co are the Consultants. A large number of agencies of repute such as Siemens, UKG, Russia, Armoto Yunz, Russia, Siemens Via, Siemens, Ltd, Alsthom India ltd, Voltas, Burner Center Russia, GDC Ltd etc. were involved in the commissioning.
