NTPC expanding power capacity
With over 16,000 MW capacity under construction, NTPC plans to become a 128-GW company by 2032 with a well-diversified fuel mix
NTPC has initiated power capacity expansion programme of 3140 MW for Maharashtra, this is in addition to 2440 MW already operational through Ratnagiri Gas plant (1940 MW) and Mouda 500 MW said Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) at the foundation stone laying ceremony of NTPC- Mouda stage II (2X 660MW) near Nagpur. He added that Power Ministry is implementing other schemes worth Rs 4,000 crores in Maharashtra.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra urged for more gas for Ratnagiri Gas Power Station which is generating only one-third of its capacity due to gas shortage. He also appealed to the Centre to allocate more coal to meet Maharashtra's Power needs.
Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC, B.P. Singh, director (Projects), A.K. Jha, director (Technical), NTPC, senior officials from Ministry of Power, other prominent dignitaries from Nagpur and the State of Maharashtra were present on the occasion. Located 45 km from Nagpur, Mouda Project is the first power station of NTPC in the State of Maharashtra. The project has two 500 MW units in stage I, out of which one is already operational, second unit is likely to come on stream this year.
The stage II which has 660 MW units with super critical technology shall have high plant efficiency with 99.95% dust separation. The coal for the project has been tied up with Mahandi and Western Coal Fields and water from Gosikurd Dam. The project shall supply power to the states of Western Region.
NTPC is the largest power generating company in India with current installed capacity of 39674 MW.
