NLC achieves record lignite production, power generation
Neyvelli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC), a Mini Ratna, achieved the highest lignite production, power generation and overburden removal since its inception.
During the above period, NLC mined 23.48 Million tonnes of lignite, generated 18086 Million Units of power and excavated 157.65 Million Cubic Metre of overburden.
The company, facing problem of non-availability of land for its mining activities and due to heavy rainfall, achieved this remarkable feet under the astute leadership of its Chairman and Managing Director AR Ansari’s first year of tenure.
The company has commenced the lignite production at the Barsingsar Project, Rajasthan and the first unit of the 125 MW power project has been synchronized with the Grid.
Further, the company, under Ansari has proposed to enter into power generation with coal as fuel and other non conventional energy resources. NLC has taken up 1000 MW Coal based power plant at Tuticorin, a joint venture with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
NLC has also proposed to taken up power projects based on non conventional energy resources such as hydel, wind energy and solar energy. With these expansion activities, the power generation capacity of NLC would be increased manifold.
Ansari thanked the employees of NLC and everyone who have contributed in setting the new records in performance. With the expansion and diversification activities, he expects NLC would achieve greater heights in the years to come.
