IME Golden Jubilee Award to NLC Director (Mines)
B Surender Mohan, Director (Mines) of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, was awarded the prestigious “The IME Journal Golden Jubilee Award” instituted by the Indian Mining and Engineering Journal. On the occasion, the award was received by C Senthamilselvan, Chief General Manager, NLC on behalf of Director (Mines).
Mohan has vast experience of more than three decades in the mining industry. As Director (Mines), his expertise in the field of mining put NLC in successive path during the last four years exceeding the annual targets. During his tenure, Mine-II capacity was expanded from 10.5 MTPA to 15 MTPA at a cost of Rs2,200 crore. The Barsingsar Lignite Mine project of 2.1 MT capacity was commissioned during January 2012. Both the above mine projects were completed without any cost over-run. NLC has one Vishwakarma Award for completing the Mine-II expansion Project without any cost overrun. NLC, apart from having its own Pit Head Thermal Power Plants, is also the largest producer of lignite in the country. NLC has coveted with Navratna status recently and meets the power demands of the southern States to the maximum extent.
The Indian Mining & Engineering Journal published from 1961 is serving the Indian Mining Sector through diffusion and communication of new technologies. It is to be noted that the IME Journal, established in 1961, is providing valuable service in the field of Mining.
The Mine Tech 12 seminar was held in Bhubaneswar at a critical juncture when the Indian Mining Industry is returning back to normal after the global slowdown effect. Many important topics such as Practical issues conversing opencast and underground mining, Coal, non-coal minerals & Atomic research exploration, excavation, Drilling & blasting, Blast free mining techniques, Heavy earth moving machineries & equipment, maintenance & productivity use of lubricants, Safety and environmental friendly technologies in mining & ore/coal processing in 6 different sessions, Application of IT & other quality /cost reduction techniques etc., Energy conservation and use of non renewable energy sources were discussed during the seminar.
Eminent CEOs of major mining Organisations including PSUs, senior government officials, faculty members and R&D specialists participated and deliberation were on the mining technology needs of achieving higher growth and safety with eco-friendly mining during the event.
